When it comes to my work as an artist, I aim to design unique characters and stories that present appealing qualities within their personalities and tales. I strive to portray experiences from my life and the world around me to share my deepest emotions. With the fictional characters I design, I can put forth my experiences in ways I can share both metaphorically and with a deep sense of truth to them.
I create appealing characters by focusing on their most important features: anatomy, looks, and personality. These characteristics can inform an individual much about a character just by appearance alone, hence why I put a lot of thought into the size of a character, color design, expressions, and traits to tell their story. The goals of these characters and their journeys are to establish relationships between the viewers observing them and to provoke emotions through these relations or the lessons learned.
Many of my character designs are done digitally using a tablet as well as 2D drawing and editing programs. However, I also use traditional methods such as pencil sketches, pens, paint, and Copic markers. When it comes to writing I use Microsoft Word and Google Docs, and make use of grammar websites to validate my work.
My work has been influenced by not only my own experiences, but by the many animated films watched throughout the course of my life. The characters within them are designed to be appealing, thus why they continue to inspire my style, my work, and my thought processes. I personally believe an appealing character can be the key to a strong story, game, or project. Which is why the field of character design and storytelling is my focus, and why I strive toward creating presentable characters and tales that will leave a mark on the world.
